Sporting Chance now reopened!

The Kickstart Sporting Chance Sports Club has re-opened and provides disabled people from the age of 8 onwards the opportunity of learning how to play new sports in an accessible and inclusive environment.

The sports session always starts with warm- up exercises and then there is a wide variety of sports that participants can choose to play. This includes wheelchair basketball, wheelchair football, table tennis, badminton, boccia, new age curling, football, rugby, basketball, polybat, cricket and table cricket. We will be introducing three new weekday sessions of Yoga, Ti- Chi and Self-defence for disabled people.

All these sessions are open to any disabled person living within the Borough of Rochdale. You do not even have to be very fit or energetic, just willing to have a go.

The sessions are held every Saturday 10am until 12pm at Springhill High School Turf Hill Road Rochdale.

From the sports club we have had three major successes. Firstly our boccia team came second in the Greater Manchester Boccia League, this is a brilliant achievement as the team had only been playing for two months when it entered the league. Secondly the New Age Curling team came third in Greater Manchester Youth Games, winning the bronze medal. Thirdly one of our members, who had only been playing table tennis for seven months when he was selected to train with the English Learning Disability Table Tennis Squad. He has now played in several International events since.
